Are you aware that the driving test is undergoing a few changes from December 4th 2017? The main changes are:

  1. The independent driving section is changing from around 10 minutes to 20 minutes so it will now take up roughly half of the test. However, the reversing manoeuvre you will be asked to do on the test is likely to be included within this section so you probably will not be driving for 20 minutes during this part.
  2. The other change to this part is that you will probably be following directions from a satnav – 4 out of 5 tests will be doing this with the other 1/5 following directions and/or road signs as at present.
  3. The reversing manoeuvres are changing too – two of the current manoeuvres (turn in the road and reverse around a corner) will no longer be tested. Two new ones are being introduced – pull up on the right hand side of the road and reverse back for at least 2 car lengths and then move off again and drive forward into a parking bay and then reverse out again. The other manoeuvres are reverse parking and reverse into a parking bay (this one will be done in the test centre car park).
  4. You will be asked to demonstrate one of the ‘show me’ questions whilst you are driving. These questions can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/car-show-me-tell-me-vehicle-safety-questions/car-show-me-tell-me-vehicle-safety-questions-from-4-december-2017
